Fort McMurray Portable Particulate Monitor Data: BC Wildfires, Summer 2017

Description

Beginning in July 2017, the Environmental Monitoring and Science Division of Alberta Environment and Parks deployed portable air quality particulate monitors into areas of Alberta where air quality may be affected by wildfires in British Columbia. These monitors provide data on the dust, or particulate matter (PM2.5), levels in the area.

This data set provides the particulate matter data for this time period and location, in batches. The data displays hourly data in a graph for each day of the particulate matter levels detected by these monitors at the latitudes and longitudes identified. The air quality objective for particulate matter (80 µg/m3) is also provided on the graphs as a reference.

The Fox Lake site was added on Aug 16/17.  Cardston and Pincher Creek were added on Sep 06/17.  Pincher Creek, Waterton, Cardston and Camrose were removed on Oct 05/17.

Usage Considerations

PM2.5 refers to very small particles that can be inhaled into your lungs and can be a health concern, depending on the levels of particulate matter in the air. These particles are the major component of the Air Quality Health Index during forest fires.

*Please note that the data presented in the graphs represent raw (uncorrected) one-hour average values.
