Fort McMurray Portable Particulate Monitor Data: May Wildfires, 2016

Description

Beginning on May 7, 2016 and ending Dec 14, 2016, the Environmental Monitoring and Science Division of Alberta Environment and Parks deployed portable air quality particulate monitors into the Fort McMurray region of Alberta. These monitors provide data on the dust, or particulate matter (PM2.5), levels in the area during the forest fires. Daily graphs are provided through June 26, after which frequency was changed to weekly.

Each graph illustrates the concentration of particulate matter data on an hourly basis for a given location.  The air quality objective for particulate matter (80 µg/m3) is provided on the graphs as a reference.

The data are provided in both an Excel format and .pdf graphs.  The Excel workbooks have cumulative data.

NB: Data was collected on behalf of the Alberta Environmental Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting Agency (AEMERA) until June 30, 2016, at which point AEMERA was dissolved and the Environmental Monitoring and Science Division of Alberta Environment and Parks was created.

Usage Considerations

PM2.5 refers to very small particles that can be inhaled into your lungs and can be a health concern, depending on the levels of particulate matter in the air. These particles are the major component of the Air Quality Health Index during forest fires.

*Please note that the data presented in the graphs represent raw (uncorrected) one-hour average values.

NB: Due to technical issues, some of the June 12 monitoring data is not available.  The missing data will be posted if it is found to be recoverable.

NB: Data for the Keyano Main Campus monitor is unavailable from June 13 due to a power issue.

NB: Due to technical issues, the monitoring data for MacDonald Island Park is not available from June 13, 2016 onward.  We are working to resolve this issue as soon as possible.

NB: The Firehall #1 sampler was removed June 23 for servicing and re-deployed on July 05 to Stone Creek.

NB: Due to technical issues, the monitoring data for Abasand is not available from Aug 10, 2016 onward.  We are working to resolve this issue as soon as possible.

NB: Due to a power issue, the monitoring data for Stone Creek is not available from Aug 16-19.  This issue has been resolved.

NB: Two monitors (Beacon Hill and Waterways) were serviced and relocated on Aug 25/26.  The associated graphs have been renamed accordingly.

NB: Data for Stone Creek is unavailable for Sep 12-18 2016 due to lack of available power to the monitor.

NB: Data for Beacon Hill Arena is unavailable from Nov 07 2016 due to a technical issue.
